Notably, the university welcomed its very first international students from Honduras, Somalia, and Spain.
Scenes from the Ceremony
During the ceremony, congratulatory addresses and inspirational messages were delivered by the university leadership and student representatives.
Dr. SUZUKI Norihiko, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Hiroshima Corporation for Higher Education, highlighted the university’s brand message, “Creating Shared Futures,” emphasizing the significance of people with diverse backgrounds gathering to co-create new value through dialogue. He extended a warm welcome to the incoming students, encouraging them to challenge and support one another to forge a path into the future.

LEONARDIA EMMA CLARISSA BONGCO (from the Philippines), representative of the incoming students from the Department of Social System Design, likened their shared future to a canvas, stating, “Today is the day we paint the very first stroke.” She passionately expressed her determination to turn differences in perspectives and values into a major strength, listening to and engaging with one another to build a new “second home” together.

BA Khadidiatou, representing the graduates, reflected on the challenges, friendships, and personal growth she and her classmates experienced over their four years at Eikei University of Hiroshima. She expressed her gratitude to the faculty, staff, families, friends, and everyone who had supported them. Concluding her speech, she said, “Four years ago, we arrived at Eikei University of Hiroshima wondering what the future would hold. Today, we leave knowing that the future is ours to create.”

Furthermore, Yoon Ei Phyu (from Myanmar), representative of the current students and also from the Department of Social System Design, reflected on her own journey over the past year. She shared with the incoming students that “some of the most important things in university life are those that won’t be recorded on an academic transcript,” such as unexpected experiences and meaningful encounters. As a senior student, she offered thoughtful advice, encouraging them to look up from their laptops, step forward, make new connections, and say “yes” to new opportunities.

All faculty and staff members sincerely support the new students as they gain rich experiences in Hiroshima and take their first steps toward shaping a wonderful future.
