Discovering a Truly International Perspective for Legal Studies
When choosing my study abroad destination from Mexico, my primary goal was to come to Japan. Eikei University of Hiroshima immediately stood out to me. Although Eikei is not a specialized law school, courses like Legal Mind, Public Management, and Studies in Diversity and Multiculturalism were deeply appealing as I wanted to broaden my perspective on international law.
After checking the website, course list, and testimonials from other international students over and over again, I was fully convinced that Eikei was the right choice. The strong support for adapting to life in Japan and the global environment exceeded my expectations, confirming I made the best decision.
Widening My Worldview Through Japanese Legal Strategies and Deep Reflection
Two courses left a lasting impression on me:
- Legal Mind: As a future lawyer, gaining a new legal perspective from this side of the world was fascinating. Taught by an experienced lawyer, I gained deep insights into private international law, Japanese legal institutions, and local legal strategies.
- Studies in Diversity and Multiculturalism: Professor Seko sparked profound conversations through thought-provoking exercises. The class helped me take a bandage off my eyes and see the world as it truly is—appreciating diversity up close and recognizing that contrasting global situations happen simultaneously.
A Transformative Journey Toward Independence and Confidence
Arriving in Japan from far away in Mexico and living independently for six months completely turned my world 180 degrees. Taking courses alongside classmates from across the globe and building friendships that are pure gold has been a life-changing experience.
Supported by wonderfully kind faculty and staff, the knowledge I gained went far beyond academics—it enriched my social skills and life perspective. I arrived as an inexperienced and somewhat apprehensive student, but I am leaving as an independent woman ready to explore the world.
Charting a Career in Private International Law Across the Globe
Gaining a hands-on international perspective has solidified my decision to pursue a career in international law. After graduating this December and officially becoming a lawyer, I plan to specialize in private international law and work in an environment that allows me to travel globally.
My goal is to continuously expand my life perspective, experience new cultures firsthand, and become a better version of myself every single day.
