Academic Field / Expertise

Area Management; Industry–Academia–Government Partnership

Message

Who shapes our cities, and with what intentions and mechanisms? As many countries experience population decline, social challenges are becoming increasingly complex and diverse.

For the cities of the future, it is no longer sufficient for governments, businesses, or citizens to act independently. Rather, new frameworks and systems are required in which multiple stakeholders align their respective objectives and work in partnership to create new value.

My areas of expertise are area management and industry–academia–government partnership. Through practical experience in urban and regional revitalization, I study the forms of organizations and projects that support and sustain the social and economic functions of cities.

I have been involved in a range of initiatives in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Hiroshima, including the formulation of urban visions, the development of community-building platforms, and the design of processes leading to project implementation.

Currently, drawing on insights gained from these practical experiences, I compare domestic and international cases to explore new models for sustaining social and economic activities in urban and regional contexts.

In my research activities, I place emphasis not only on examining social challenges from a theoretical perspective, but also on engaging directly with the field, maintaining dialogue with diverse stakeholders, and acting as one of the practitioners working toward solutions.
