Eikei Feminism/Gender Studies Seminar #1 was held

Eikei Feminism/Gender Studies Seminar (#1) was held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Eikei TOP on the 15th floor of the University. This seminar series, organized by Eikei University’s Associate Professor Nozomi Mizushima (Social Studies of Science and Technology: STS) and Associate Professor Yoko Taguchi (Cultural Anthropology), explores the latest research related to feminism and gender.

On this first event, we invited Dr. Aya Homei, a Senior Lecturer in Japanese Studies at the University of Manchester and currently a JSPS Invitational Fellow at Ritsumeikan University, to give a lecture titled “Making of the ‘Feebleminded’: Gender and Family for the Medical Discourse around Involuntary Sterilization in 1950s Japan.” Thirteen students and researchers from inside and outside the university attended the lecture and engaged in lively discussions.
