This week-long program was designed to help first-year students start their university life smoothly and meaningfully.
In addition to various orientation sessions, students took two introductory courses: Introduction to Social System Design and Introduction to Project Based Learning.

General Orientation

The orientation program began with a welcome speech by President ARINOBU Mutsuhiro , followed by an interactive workshop led by Associate Professor SEKO Motoko titled “Hen-ai Map.”

Your Digital Campus Guide

On the first afternoon, Professor TSUCHIMOTO Yasuo conducted a session titled “Your Digital Campus Guide.
Eikei University places great emphasis on the Development of Digital Literacy and Thinking Skills , which include ICT, Data Science, Logical Thinking, Design Thinking, and Systems Thinking.
To help students acquire skills essential in an era of IoT and AI, the university has established its own network environment and has adopted a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy since its founding. Each student participates in classes using their own device.

Introduction to Social System Design

An introductory class on Social System Design, the core of Eikei University’s academic philosophy, was also held.
In this course, taught by Professor YASUI Toshiyuki, students attended seven sessions to learn the fundamental concepts of Social System Design (SSD).

Through group work, they worked on:

  • Explaining SSD in their own words
  • Understanding and describing the academic disciplines that support SSD
  • Connecting their dreams and future goals with the SDGs and explaining why they want to study SSD

Introduction to Project Based Learning

In the course Introduction to Project Based Learning, taught by Lecturer MATSUURA Yasuyuki , students learned the foundations of Eikei University’s signature practical subject, Project Based Learning (PBL) .
Through group discussions, students identified social issues of personal interest, developed solutions, and gave presentations.
This process helped them cultivate a sense of ownership toward social issues and discover the direction of their future studies.

In their 2nd and 3rd years, students will further develop these skills by tackling real-world issues provided by companies and organizations—from identifying root causes to proposing solutions.

Campus Tour

During the campus tour, current students serving as “Buddies” guided the new students around the university.
They visited key facilities such as Eikei Top, EUH Cafeteria, the Career Design Office, and the Library, learning about spaces that will support their daily academic and student life.
After the tour, the Buddy students also assisted the newcomers with paperwork and other tasks to help them settle smoothly into campus life.
