Special IEP Lecture Featuring Dr. PREETHA Rajaraman, Vice Chair of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Intensive English Program (IEP) hosted a special lecture featuring Dr. PREETHA Rajaraman, Vice Chair and Executive Director (U.S.) of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF).

This special event was organized by Professor UESUGI Yuko, who first met Dr. PREETHA Rajaraman at the U.S.-Japan Society meeting in late 2024. After months of coordination, the lecture was successfully arranged.

Dr. PREETHA Rajaraman delivered an engaging and accessible talk on how radiation research is positively applied in the fields of science and medicine, as well as the effects of radiation in our daily lives. Students listened attentively, taking notes throughout the session. The discussion that followed was lively, with many students actively asking questions and engaging in thoughtful dialogue.

After the lecture, Dr. PREETHA Rajaraman praised the students for their impressive English proficiency and intellectual curiosity.

As part of the IEP’s commitment to broadening students’ perspectives, a special lecture is held once per quarter, inviting experts from outside the university to speak on a wide range of topics.
