Global Collaboration Cultivated Through English and Practical Experience

Before entering Eikei University of Hiroshima, I didn’t have a clear goal or dream. Although I had several areas of interest, I wasn’t confident they truly suited me, and I hadn’t deeply considered specific careers or future paths. However, I had a strong desire to learn something new in English, and I hoped that by going to university, my perspective would broaden and I would discover what I truly wanted to pursue. That’s why I decided to enroll, even without a clear goal, with the intention of exploring my potential in a new environment.

I chose Eikei University of Hiroshima because I was drawn to its challenging environment, the opportunity to learn in English, and the chance to participate in internships both in Japan and abroad. Since I wanted to study using English, I felt the global curriculum was a good fit for me. I was also attracted to the fact that, as a new university, students could take the lead in shaping its culture. Furthermore, the curriculum’s emphasis on practical learning and the abundance of internship opportunities were major deciding factors. I wanted to gain not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience to expand my future possibilities.

Although my vision was vague before entering university, it gradually became clearer through my studies. Especially through practical classes and internships both domestically and internationally, I was able to discover my interests and strengths. Learning in English and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds broadened my international perspective, and I developed a strong desire to work in a global environment in the future. As I accumulated experiences at university, my direction became more defined, and I began to approach my studies more proactively.

One particularly influential experience was a one-and-a-half-month stay in Colombia through Experiential / Practical program. During this program, I interned at a Japanese cultural center in Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest city. In addition to my internship activities, I learned about local culture and social issues, and through direct interaction with people, I gained valuable experiences that would have been difficult to obtain in Japan. In particular, learning about Colombia’s history and peacebuilding efforts sparked a strong interest in post-conflict societal challenges. This experience inspired me to choose a Colombia-related theme for my Degree Project, allowing me to conduct deeper research.

After graduation, I plan to work for a company that deals with semiconductors. I hope to contribute by being mindful of the connection between technology and society. Semiconductors play a vital role in many areas of modern life and are essential for digitalization and building a sustainable society. By leveraging the global collaboration I developed at university and the energetic drive I gained through my practical experience in Colombia, I aim to contribute to international business development and intercultural communication. In the semiconductor industry, where innovation is key, I want to apply foresight and strategy to incorporate new ideas and perspectives, and engage in efforts toward a more sustainable future.

To future students and juniors, I want to say: “Value your interests and actively take on challenges.” University life offers a high degree of freedom, and how much you grow depends on your own initiative. Experiences such as studying abroad and internships are especially valuable opportunities to learn in real-world settings. Through the Experiential / Practical program in Colombia, I was able to encounter diverse values and broaden my perspective. I also believe that actively participating in extracurricular activities and interacting with people from different fields will lead to new discoveries. Even if your future path isn’t clear, continuing to challenge yourself in areas of interest will help you uncover what truly matters to you.

What I appreciate most about Eikei University of Hiroshima is that through learning in English and gaining practical experience both in Japan and abroad, I was able to develop a global perspective and a proactive attitude toward challenges. I want to continue nurturing a mindset of lifelong learning, enhance my ability for self-improvement, and become someone who can contribute to the growth of both companies and society.
