A New Goal Inspired by Academic Diversity

By exploring a wide range of academic fields, I was able to identify my interests and strengths, ultimately discovering a new goal.

Before entering university, I didn’t have a clear idea of what I truly wanted to do. I had no specific dreams or career goals, but I hoped that by engaging with diverse academic disciplines, I could find my interests and aptitudes. That’s why I was drawn to Eikei University of Hiroshima, which emphasizes liberal arts and offers opportunities to gain broad knowledge and skills. Through my studies and experiences at university, I wanted to identify the fields I was passionate about and consider how I could contribute to society.

One of the main reasons I chose Eikei University of Hiroshima was its environment that allows students to explore a wide range of academic subjects. I believed that studying various disciplines through Liberal arts courses would help me discover new interests and prompt deeper reflection on my future. I was also attracted to the opportunity to broaden my perspective and grow through interactions with students who hold diverse values. I hoped that this kind of learning environment would help me find my own aspirations.

Initially, my goal was simply to gain broad knowledge. However, as I studied different fields and interacted with students and faculty with diverse perspectives, I gradually came to understand my own interests and strengths. Especially through practical projects and discussions, I began to think not only about acquiring knowledge but also about how to apply it to society. During this process, I developed a vision of utilizing riverside spaces.

The classes that had the greatest impact on me were “Environmental Engineering” and “Biodiversity” which focused on environmental issues and biological diversity. These courses deepened my understanding of environmental conservation and the realization of a sustainable society. I had many opportunities to think about concrete initiatives for human-nature coexistence, and through that, I became interested in the use of riverside spaces. As I learned about the potential of rivers and waterfronts in urban areas, I began to envision creating spaces where people could interact with nature—not just admire the scenery. To achieve this, I started gathering information, analyzing it logically, and developing strategic plans. Based on this learning, I set a new goal: to take on the challenge of revitalizing riverside spaces and contribute to the local community.

After graduation, I plan to start a company called Suito Hiroshima Corporation, with the aim of making Hiroshima a more attractive city by promoting urban development that balances functionality and environmental sustainability. Specifically, I will work on developing water transportation systems using rivers in central Hiroshima. One challenge is the significant tidal fluctuations, which make it difficult to maintain profitability with current methods. However, by optimizing vessel types, user demographics, and route efficiency, I believe this issue can be addressed. Furthermore, I hope to explore new ways of utilizing riverside areas around docking points and use my energetic drive to help revitalize the local community.

To future students and juniors, I want to say: don’t just spend four years at university—actively take on challenges and grow through learning from failure. In today’s world, knowledge alone can be acquired online, but university offers the chance to gain practical experience and new perspectives through discussions with peers and faculty. Eikei University of Hiroshima brings together highly motivated students who inspire one another, and the faculty generously support students’ efforts. I hope you make the most of this environment and expand your potential.
