Hiroshima University Graduate School

A Challenge Precisely Because There Was No Precedent

Before entering Eikei University of Hiroshima, I didn’t have a specific career goal in mind. However, I had a strong desire to continue the peace and international activities I had been involved in during high school in Hiroshima. My aim was to apply the knowledge and experiences gained at Eikei University of Hiroshima —a newly established, community-based institution— to extracurricular activities and expand the scope of my engagement. I also hoped to build a solid academic foundation in case I decided to pursue a more specialized path in the future.

I learned about Eikei University of Hiroshima through a recommendation from my high school homeroom teacher. The deciding factors for me were the ability to continue my activities while staying based in Hiroshima, and the opportunity to deepen my interests while strengthening ties with the local community. These made me confident in my decision to enroll.

After entering university, I focused primarily on activities outside the classroom, while also developing my discussion and presentation skills through coursework. The university’s emphasis on Active Learning helped me build the confidence to express my ideas and participate in discussions with people from around the world. These skills and attitudes proved invaluable in both domestic and international extracurricular activities, giving me opportunities to encounter new perspectives and cultures. As a result, in addition to continuing my original activities in Hiroshima, I also developed a new goal: to pursue graduate-level research.

At Eikei University of Hiroshima, every class included group presentations, discussions, and opportunities to speak. This allowed me to apply the communication skills I developed in class to extracurricular activities, such as international exchange. Through the Project-Based Learning and Experiential / Practical programs, I had the chance to engage with real-world issues and gained a deeper understanding of the many ways one can contribute to society.

After graduation, I plan to pursue a master’s degree focused on peace education in Hiroshima. I hope to use the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained to propose new approaches to peace education for future generations. With an international perspective, I aim to give back to society through research that draws on both my academic background and practical experience.

To future students and juniors, I want to say: even if you don’t have a clear goal yet, take action toward what interests you right now. As you explore areas of interest, your own goals and path will gradually come into view. Taking that first step and continuing to learn will eventually lead you to your future. And don’t forget to keep an eye on your credits—let’s do our best together!
