{"id":1171,"date":"2024-07-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eikei.dev.db-force.net\/english\/news\/1171\/"},"modified":"2025-03-27T12:48:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T03:48:34","slug":"details_01370","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/eikei.ac.jp\/english\/news\/1171\/","title":{"rendered":"Exchange class with high school students from Hawaii"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"cms_text\">\n<p>On Thursday, June 20, 2024, 20 selected high school students and 5 faculty members from the Pacific &#038; Asian Affairs Council (PAAC) visited us, thanks to our friendship with the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa, our international exchange partner university. The visit was part of PAAC&#8217;s annual study tour program for high school students in Hawaii to learn about Japanese culture and peace.<\/p>\n<p>As the background of this project, Professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eikei.ac.jp\/english\/academics\/researcher\/details_00287.html\">UESUGI Yuko<\/a>&nbsp;of Eikei University of Hiroshima (EUH) traveled to the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa last March and was introduced by her research collaborator, Jose Barzola sensei, to Ms. Carol Li, who serves as the Study Tours &#038; World Quest Competition Director at PACC. This project was realized thanks to his kind introduction.<\/p>\n<p>About two weeks before the trip, on Monday, June 3, we interacted online with the visiting group in advance in our Listening English I (Intermediate1).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"cmn_gallery col3\">\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/cmsdata\/att\/01370_18762_010.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/cmsdata\/att\/01370_18762_020.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/cmsdata\/att\/01370_18762_030.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"cms_text\">\n<p>On the day of the event, the 20 Hawaii high school students were placed in five classes of four students each for exchange classes in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eikei.ac.jp\/english\/academics\/feature\/english.html\">Intensive English Program (IEP)<\/a>, a required course for first-year students entering in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>Various elaborate events were held in each class. The EUH students had prepared for this event by making slides introducing Japanese culture. The students enjoyed interacting with each other throughout the classes, and the classroom was filled with smiles and laughter. The students exchanged contact information and will continue to keep in touch in the future.
